City of Dublin ETB Announced As Patron of New National Children’s Hospital School
City of Dublin Education and Training Board (ETB) has been selected by the Department of Education and Youth to take on the patronage of the new National Children’s Hospital (NCH) School.
Dr Christy Duffy, Chief Executive Officer of City of Dublin ETB said:
“As the State Provider of multi-denominational education and training, City of Dublin ETB is delighted to have been chosen as the Patron of the new hospital school in the National Children’s Hospital. We look forward to welcoming all young students into our state-of-the-art school as they become part of our wider City of Dublin ETB network of Community National Schools, Community Special Schools, Community Hospital Schools and Community Colleges.”
The new hospital school is being established at NCH which will be formed through the amalgamation of four existing hospital schools currently located as follows:
- Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin
- Beaumont Hospital
- Children’s Health Ireland at Temple St.
- Children’s Health Ireland at Tallaght
All paediatric services under CHI will transfer from the current sites into the NCH.
It is expected that the new hospital school will open on 1st September, 2026.
Patronage of the hospital schools at CHI at Temple St. and CHI at Tallaght, will transfer from The Catholic Archbishop of Dublin and The Church of Ireland Archbishop of Dublin and Glendalough to City of Dublin ETB.
City of Dublin ETB is the existing patron of one Community National School, two Community Hospital Schools at Beaumont Hospital, and CHI at Crumlin, plus one Community Special School, alongside 11 Community Colleges in Dublin city.

“Our ETB is keen to respond to the growing demand amongst parents for the State to provide more choice of school types other than single-denominational models. As ETB schools, Community Hospital Schools, benefit greatly from a broad range of support, and services from City of Dublin ETB.”
